WHY TEACH CHINESE WRITING: Literacy Matters in the Age of Text Messaging!
This presentation addresses the need for teaching Chinese literacy. In today’s world, accessing Chinese websites, post comments, conduct business in Chinese via email, or texting Chinese friends or colleagues, each requires proficiency in Chinese writing. Pedagogically it opens up the rich literature and culture for students to discover themselves a deeper understanding of the context of the Chinese language they are studying.
2:15-3:00 PM
MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES FOR TEACHING CHINESE WRITING
How can we, as educators, harness new mobile technologies for teaching both spoken Chinese language as well as Chinese character writing. We shall explore how current and new technologies may be used to create more effective and engaging tools for learning Chinese, as the traditional method of rote learning is notoriously well-known for being uninspiring and inefficient.
IWRITE WENZI SEMINAR & PANEL DISCUSSION
iWrite Wenzi will introduce and demonstrate the mobile app, “iWrite Wenzi” to attendees of both Sessions given by Dr. Chan. The app development team and educators will discuss the unique features of the app and address questions by educators and other attendees.
